About the Site
Moon Rabbit is my collective for the fanlistings I maintain! (It's not my fanlisting collective in general, because I show off the fanlistings I'm a member of on my main site's homepage. My main site also hosts all my shrines/fansites!) All fanlistings I have my paws in use Discord Webhooks and Javascript for the sign-ups, meaning that the listings themselves are maintained by hand. It's for this reason that I aim for the collective to remain small in size.
Layout
Version 1.0 features artwork of Sylveon (Pokemon) with a pink, blue and green-focused color scheme.
Name
Ballonlea is a town from Pokemon Sword and Shield, home to the region's Fairy-type Gym, lush forestry, and glowing mushrooms! It has always felt like a second home to me, despite it being a fictional location. Embracing such a "cringe" statement as "I identify a fictional place as a home" is the ethos behind its usage as a domain. I want to be so earnest that it makes other people flinch!
"Moon Rabbit" as a name comes from the mystical figure from East Asian folklore. It is based on the interpretation that certain shapes on the moon look like a rabbit. In East Asian mythology, the rabbit is seen as pounding with a mortar and pestle, but the actual contents of the mortar vary. Some versions say it is making mooncakes, mochi, or rice cakes, while others say it is creating medicine, or an elixir of life. If you're a fan of Sailor Moon, this myth is why the main character is named Usagi (bunny)!
I've always really loved this piece of mythology, because I identify heavily with both rabbits and the moon, and I happen to love all the real-world foods the rabbit is said to be making. I also generally love mythology a lot, although I'm certainly no expert!
I chose Sylveon for the layout of Moon Rabbit, because Sylveon is speculated to be based on the moon rabbit! (Plus, it certainly helps that it matches with my domain, being a Fairy-type Pokemon and all.) Sylveon's ears are far more rounded than other Eevee evolutions, and fairies are often depicted as most active during a full moon, making it seem likely that the design was inspired by the moon rabbit. Additionally, there could be inspiration taken from Chang'e, a moon goddess considered to be the rabbit's owner in Chinese mythology. Chang'e is a specific type of female deity, a xiānnǚ, which is often translated to "fairy" or "fairy maiden". Xiānnǚ are depicted as wearing a hanfu, which is a traditional robe decorated with ribbons. This is likely what inspired Sylveon's ribbon-like feelers.
